Experian South Africa is currently investigating an isolated incident involving a fraudulent data inquiry. This incident involved the release of information which is provided in the ordinary course of business or which is already publicly available.
Experian has confirmed that no consumer credit or financial information has been released. Early investigations indicate that none of the stolen data has been used for fraudulent purposes, and it was intended to be used purely to create marketing leads to offer insurance and other credit-related services.
Experian has executed an , which has resulted in the stolen data being secured and deleted. The National Credit Regulator and the Information Regulator have also been made aware of this incident.
Experian’s bureau infrastructure, systems and database have not been compromised.
