What is a credit score
A credit score is a number that helps give you an idea of how your credit profile may look to lenders.
It’s based on the information in your credit report, such as how you manage accounts, whether you make payments on time, how much credit you use, and whether there’s any negative information like defaults or judgments.
Your score is only one part of the picture. Lenders don’t just use your credit score when deciding whether to offer you credit – they may also look at things like your income, affordability, existing debt, application details, and their own lending criteria.
In fact, lenders often don’t see the exact score you see in the app. They’re usually more interested in the underlying data on your credit file and will often calculate their own internal score or affordability assessment based on their own criteria. Your ClearScore score is simply our way of interpreting the information on your report.
A higher score can suggest that your credit profile is in a healthier place, but it doesn’t guarantee approval or better rates. Keeping your report accurate and building good credit habits over time can help improve how lenders may view you.
