At ClearScore, we show the information held by Experian, our partner credit bureau in South Africa. Most information on your credit report is shared with Experian by banks, lenders, and other credit providers.
If information on your report is incorrect, missing, or unfamiliar, the best first step is usually to contact the lender or provider directly and ask them to update their records.
Incorrect personal information
If your address, telephone number, or employer information are incorrect on your credit report, contact your banks and lenders first to update these details. Once updated, it can take up to 60 days for the changes to appear on your credit report.
If your information still hasn’t been updated after 60 days, you can raise a dispute with Experian through our Chat located on the right-hand side of this page.
Missing personal information
Experian cannot manually add new information to your credit report. If information such as your employer details or telephone number are missing, you’ll need to contact your bank or lender and ask them to share the information with Experian. This information is usually updated when you apply for credit or update your details directly with the lender.
Missing accounts
If an account is missing from your report, this could be because:
- The account is new and hasn’t been reported to Experian yet
- The lender does not share data with Experian
- The account appears under a different company name
- Experian is waiting for an update from the lender
If you believe an account is incorrectly missing, contact the lender directly and ask them to share the account information with Experian. Once the lender shares the information, it can take up to 60 days to appear on your credit report.
Information you don’t recognise
If there’s information on your report that you don’t recognise, contact the bank or lender involved to confirm why it’s appearing on your credit report. If the lender confirms there’s been a mistake, they’ll need to correct their records and send the updated information to Experian.
Once updated, it can take up to 60 days for the changes to reflect on your report.
Raising a dispute
If you’ve already contacted the lender and the information still hasn’t been updated after 60 days, you can raise a dispute with Experian through our Chat located on the right-hand side of this page. For more information, see our article: How do I raise a dispute?
